In this section you will find information on various options for communicating about invasive ants: awareness raising (prevention) and management (movement control, pesticide information when treatments are being undertaken). We have also provided templates for posters, as well as factsheets and leaflets from other sources. All links to files that are 2 MB or larger in size have been labelled.

Awareness materials
Message: to assist in prevention of incursions of invasive ants and to inform communities of the problems that these ants can cause when they establish.
Videos, posters, leaflets, presentations or radio announcements should feature the following information:
- What the ant is called
- A photo and description of its size and colour
- Why it is a problem / what problems it causes
- Where it has come from
- Where you might find it and where it nests
- How the ants are transported from place to place
- Who to call if an unusual ant is seen

The PIAT YouTube channel has videos to raise awareness of invasive ants, including information on environmental, economic and agricultural damage and harm to people.
Posters for awareness raising
The PIAT has posters to raise awareness of invasive ants and biosecurity.
You can find versions of these that you can customise and translate in our set of poster templates - prevention (download 3 MB). We also have high quality print versions that you can print. These are all designed to be printed half x A2 size (210mm x 594mm) i.e. two posters per sheet on 130gsm coated high brite paper stock. The posters are:

Management materials
Management materials include information on movement controls and pesticide / health warnings.
Movement controls posters
Message: When a threat ant has been detected in the area, the community needs to be made aware and movement controls put in place.
Posters and / or leaflets should be distributed throughout the surrounding area.
The posters should feature the following information:
- What the ant is called
- A photo and description of its size and colour
- Why it is a problem
- Where it has come from
- Where you might find it and where it nests
- What people can do to avoid spreading the ant
- Who to call if an unusual ant is seen
For movement controls also:
- Give the known area of the incursion (with a map)
- State the possible consequences of establishment

Pesticide awareness postersMessage: When management using insecticides is being undertaken to control an invasive ant species, the community needs to be made aware. Warning posters should be distributed throughout the treatment area and surrounding area. The posters should feature the following information:
We have created template warning posters (see example right) that you can customise and translate for your application.

In addition to warning posters it is advisable to distribute warning leaflets to all households in and around the treatment area and to anyone routinely entering the area. These leaflets should include:
- the name of the chemical and what it does
- A picture of what the bait(s) look like
- How to avoid contact with the chemical
- Symptoms of exposure to the chemical
- Contact details for more information or if exposure is suspected.
